It's Expandable

wpe2.jpg (4543 bytes)

In its basic configuration, Cable Envoy is a character generator, consisting of a Powered Rack Mounting Unit, Server Unit and Interface. When fully configured, the rack can hold up to 5 channel units, each of which can interrupt a selected channel via crawl. Client racks with the capability of up to 10 more channel units per rack may be added. This modular solution provides for future expandability.

Each channel can be customized on an individualized basis to accommodate such demands as messages in another language.

Installed at the cable station's headend, the Addressable Messaging System enables cable television managers to inject video and audio override messages individually into any channel's program signal, for display of text, in crawl, full-page or multi-page formats. Messages may be created locally at the headend, or at a remote site, then transmitted via modem, touch tone phone, satellite, or AM/FM radio to the system. Channel signal monitoring and headend management capabilities are also available.

And you need not worry about running out of room as your channel selections expand. Your Cable Envoy system can expand along with you.

Powered Rack Mounting Unit CMRU0300

Each module is mountable in a modular rack housing equipped with its own integral power supply headend and connected to a server unit by a single 8-wire communications cable. A contact closure on each rack provides for local modulator switching. Each rack mounting unit accommodates up to 10 channel units.

Communications Multiplexer CMTC0600

The Communications Multiplexer is an optional module used to extend the communications capabilities of the server unit. The multiplexer enables the single communications interface on the server to transfer data between four external devices, such as a personal computer, a modem, a status printer and an Emergency Alert System (EAS) decoder. The Tone Commander telephone access module enables voiceover and remote activation of messages.  The CMTC0600 requires modem unit, CMMU0500 for data communications.

Channel Unit

CMCU0225 (stereo)

Each Channel Unit is a module which receives television baseband video and audio signals and under the command of the server unit may add text, override audio, override video or insert data or supervisory signals onto the video channel. The channel unit monitors the condition of the received television signal and reports to the server if the signal is not present or is impaired.

Channel units may display text overlaid on the video signal as static caption format or as a crawl, moving from right to left on a single line. Alternatively, text may be displayed as a full page or multiple page message with characters shown on a colored background.

Server Unit CMSU0100

Each Server Unit receives message data and command information via a serial data interface and relays this data across a network of interconnected channel units for display on specified channels, dictating the display format (color, scroll, speed, etc.) and activating audio overrides. The server unit also monitors the status of each channel unit, checks for command execution, and for the presence of video at each channel unit.

A network of channel units

A network of channel units, one for each program channel, is connected to a single channel server unit by economical series cabling. Employing novel architectural concepts, each compact unit contains an onboard character generator, audio-video switching, signal processing and unit-to-unit networking functions.

Text overlays

In a base configuration, the system provides a comprehensive facility to selectively overlay text displays on program signals for advertising, program listings and community notifications, at a surprisingly modest cost.

EAS Emergency Alert

Whenever an EAS alert is received, the Addressable Messaging System will automatically display alerts as crawl messages overlaid on selected channels, and details will be displayed as full-page text in English, Spanish and/or other languages, on one or more other channels.

Upgradable

To accommodate the addition of information services and control capabilities, the base configuration provides for future upgrades, such as:
