Downloading a MIP-921s Log
These are the instructions for configuring HyperTerminal for Windows 95/98/NT to save the MIP log data from the MIP-921s. It is recommended that the Stored Messages be downloaded every month. You may want to print this to keep as a reference.
The instructions are divided into two sections - Configuring HyperTerminal and Downloading a MIP log.
Configuring HyperTerminal - Creating the Connection
From the Start button on the Windows desktop, select 'Programs | Accessories | HyperTerminal'. You may need to install this program from your original Windows setup disk(s). In Windows 98, the 'HyperTerminal' group is located in Programs | Accessories | Communications.
In the group box that appears, double-click the Hypertrm.exe icon. Enter a name for the connection (such as MIP log) and click OK.
The next window will ask you to "Connect using:" with an edit box listing the available COM ports on your computer. Select the one you can use (this will vary from computer to computer) and then click OK.
Set the following:
Bits per second - 1200
Data bits - 8
Parity - none
Stop bits - 1
Flow control - Xon Xoff
Click OK. The next display will be "You are currently connected. Are you sure you want to disconnect now?" Click Yes. The following display will be "Do you want to save session MIP log?" Click Yes. What you should now have is another icon, in the same folder as the "Hypertrm.exe" icon, with whatever name you chose to give it ("MIP log.ht", for example). You may wish to place a shortcut to this icon on your desktop. This is the icon that you should use from this point on to capture the MIP log.
Downloading a MIP log - Capturing the MIP log
Double-click the "MIP log.ht" icon, or whatever you named it, to open the terminal program if it isn't already open.
From the "Transfer" menu, click "Capture Text...".
In the "Capture Text..." dialog box, you'll be able to select where you'd like the file to be saved. In the "File:" edit box of this dialog, type in the desired location including the name you wish to give the MIP log file (C:\my documents\same.txt, for example).
Connect a straight through serial cable between the "HOST IN/OUT" port on the front of the MIP-921s and your computer (configured as detailed above).
Make sure you have a blank floppy inserted into you drive if you're saving the log data to floppy disk.
Click "Start" in the "Capture Text" dialog box on you computer monitor.
Press the "MODE" button on the front of the MIP-921s until "ENTER PASSWORD" is displayed. Press the "NO" key to display "FIRST DIGIT 1", followed by the "YES" key to accept. Repeat this process to enter the second digit of 2, and a third digit of 3. The next message displayed will be "PRINT STORED MSG". Press the "YES" key to accept.
USE HOST PORT? Press the "YES" key to accept.
You should begin to see the log contents pour into your window. When data has stopped updating on the computer monitor, from the "Transfer" menu, select "Capture Text..." and click "Stop".
The file has now been saved to your selected location. The report will use Julian Date and military time. The Julian date is the number of days that have elaspsed since January 1st of the current year. Use the Perpetual Calendar for non-leap years and the Leap Year Calendar for leap years (e.g. 2004, 2008).
Using a word processor, i.e. Microsoft Word, you will be able to browse to this location and click on the file you wish to view. Once the "Stored Messages" are downloaded to the computer, they should be cleared using the "Clear MSG Memory" on the front panel of the MIP.
